Praise for God’s Triumph

Sing to the Lord a new song, ^b
His praise in the assembly of the godly. ^c
2 Let Israel celebrate its Maker;
let the children of ^{▼▼Zion: Originally a term for the fortified section of Jerusalem and then, by extension, used for the temple and the city of Jerusalem both in the present time and in the future}Zion rejoice in their King. ^e
3 Let them praise His name with dancing
and make music to Him with tambourine and lyre. ^f
4 For ^{▼▼Yahweh/Yah: Or The Lord; the personal name of God in Hebrew; "Yah" is the shortened form of the name.}Yahweh takes pleasure in His people; ^h
He adorns the humble with salvation. ⁱ
5 Let the godly celebrate in triumphal glory;
let them shout for joy on their beds. ^j

6 Let the exaltation of God be in their mouths ^{▼▼Lit throat}
and a double-edged sword in their hands, ^l
7 inflicting vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples, ^m
8 binding their kings with chains
and their dignitaries with iron shackles, ⁿ
9 carrying out the judgment decreed against them.
This honor is for all His godly people. ^o
